OUR STORY

I (Cindy) grew up with a mom that loved to cook and bake and was good to allow me to be in the middle of it all.  It became to me a symbol of love and family connection. Sam grew up on a dairy farm and learned the value of hard work and being wise with your money.

I enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for friends and family, and as I started getting busier with it, Sam brought up the idea of a commercial kitchen and actually making it a business.  So when we built our home in East Springfield (on Main Street) we decided this would be the time to incorporate a separate commercial kitchen for my cake and baking “hobby” (Hence the name Cakery).  Once we got around to completing the kitchen and had an open house for my new by order only business, we were shocked with the interest in us having regular hours. So in November of 2010 we opened for weekly Saturday hours.

The following fall we decided to set up a booth in the big tent at the Albion Fair to get our name out a bit more and would have been happy to just make our fees back. We had no idea…. We had 3 people in the kitchen 16 hours a day just trying to keep up on pies, cookies and Charlie’s sticky bun cinnamon rolls.  When the building in Albion came to our attention about being up for sale, we decided to go all in with a true storefront that opened November of 2011 where we expanded the bakery and added coffee and sandwiches. It went so well we extended our hours and added nightly dinner specials. After a year and half the Fairview location was brought to our attention and though we originally laughed and said we weren’t interested, it wasn’t long until we were checking it out and putting in an offer.

We opened the Fairview location November 6, 2013. Success there led us to focus on the one location and we later closed Albion. In November 2018 we opened the addition in Fairview, almost doubling our seating and baking space. We were thrilled with what we had and not looking for anything else when again an opportunity was brought to us. Once again, our original "no way" was followed by "what if" and in February of 2020 we opened our location in the Copperleaf development in Summit Township off Rt 99 (Edinboro Rd).  With help from our daughters (Courtney, Alexa and Morgan) at both locations we look forward to keeping the business in the family and serving you homemade goodness just like we would if you visited our home.
